What’s Next Lord?

Daily Devotion written my Michelle Lyon-Thank you beautiful sister in Christ!

What’s next Lord?  David had just mourned the loss of King Saul, God’s anointed one, and his best friend, Jonathan.  David has been on the run for so many years just trying to survive.  Have you ever been in a season of constant pressure, never-ending trials with no end in sight?  I know I have, then just like that your whole life changes in a blink of an eye there is a complete shift and you now have a new “norm”.  This is where David finds himself so what does he do?  What would we do (or should we do)?  David has already tried doing things his way which didn’t work out so well so probably not a good idea.  He goes to the one he trusts completely, the one who will never leave him or forsake, the one who loves him more than he can comprehend, the one that is always one breath away waiting on us to get to the end of ourselves to seek him.  He inquires of the Lord, for his next step, where should I go?  To Hebron, Judah’s capital. David took his two wives and his men mostly from the tribe of Judah and they settled in Hebron.  Then the men from the tribe of Judah came and anointed David King over the house of Judah…wait I thought David had been anointed by Samuel to be king over Israel?  Now that Saul has died David should be King over Israel.  Exactly, but Abner son of Ner, commander of Saul’s army had other plans (sound familiar) He took Saul’s son, Ish-bosheth, moved him to Mahanaim and made him king over all of Israel (except Judah) reigning only two years.  Really?  Abner being the commander of Saul’s Army was there when David defeated Goliath, he fought along-side of David in battles, and was with Saul all of those years hunting down David.  He also knew that David had been anointed many years ago to be the next King over Israel.  Does he really think he can thwart God’s plans? Beloved, when God speaks His promises over you they will 100% be fulfilled in God’s perfect timing!   No matter how things look in the natural, stand on God’s promises and wait expectantly.  God is always at work behind the scenes for your good and His glory.  David, a man after God’s own heart, still does not seem to be discouraged to wait even longer but is faithful with what God has given him at the moment, to be King over Judah which he did for 7 years and 6 months. A two year Civil War broke out between the house of Saul and the house of David with David growing stronger and the house of Saul becoming weaker.   Abner is assassinated by Joab for killing his brother.  Ish-bosheth became fearful and all of Israel dismayed when they heard Abner had been killed.  Baanah and Rechab, leaders of the raiding parties, take matters into their own hands and assassinate Ish-bosheth while sleeping and bring David his head.  David, in turn, orders his men to cut of the hands that had committed the murder and the feet that had run to bring the news of the murder to David.  That is not how David wanted the throne. Now Israel is without an earthly king, cliffhanger…what’s next?  Are you in a season of waiting?  Has God spoken promises to you that you are waiting to come to fruition?  Do not be discouraged, dismayed or settle for anything less than God’s best for you! I know that waiting is one of the most difficult things for us to do (especially me – type A personality) but God has a reason. He is still preparing each of us for “what’s next”.  Live each day for Him, don’t worry about what’s next, be faithful with what he has given you during this season and wait in expectation because what’s next is going to be AMAZING!!!! Isaiah 43:13 “Yes, and from ancient days I am he.  No one can deliver out of my hand.  When I act, who can reverse it?”

Studying God's word and teaching for transformation are two of my favorite things. And there is no place better to study than with my sistas! I am most grateful for my salvation, and relationship with Jesus, for the incredible Godly man I have covenanted with, and the four beautiful daughters we get to raise together.
