David’s wandering outside of the safety and security of God’s will in Zicklag came to a sudden and screeching halt.
After king Achish sent David and his men back to their home town, after a three day journey the weary renegade army discovered it had been raided by the Amalekites and they had lost absolutely everything. Their families were captured and forced into slavery.
Scripture tells us they “wept until they had no strength left”. Have you ever wept like that? It’s an utterly exhausting experience. Disgruntled and angry, his men were on the verge of turning on David and some even plotted to kill him.
David comes to the very end of trying to fix things on his own. The term Zicklag in Hebrew means to “press someone into giving up something”. His circumstances, his grief, his compromises, and his pain brought him to a place that pressed him into making a decision. He could either stay on the outskirts of the will and protection of God, or he could return to the the firm foundation and safety and protection of the boundary lines God has established on the backside of a mountain when David was a shepherd a boy.
Do you know the precious and sweet place with Jesus that you and He established in relationship, in scripture, and in the days of finding refuge in Jesus?
Psalm 18 is a vivid declaration of David’s return to truth, free from compromise, and total dependence on God most High after a season of wandering.
In one breath He ran back to truth and inquired of the Lord. “What do I do?” Surrendered to His will and plan, God led Him to victory over the Amalekites and a return of every last thing the enemy stole from him and his men.
Are you in a season of pressing? Wandering? Compromise? Weariness? Loss? Have you allowed the enemy to define you and convince you to doubt God’s leadership and promises in your life?
You sweet dweller, can use one breath, inquire of God, and realign your thinking to reflect the truth of your identity in Him.
Too many times I have opted to stay in Zicklag and believe the lies of the enemy. I’ve stayed in the pity, pain, chaos, doubt, and relied on myself to “fix it”.
The cliffhanger that is absolutely amazing a beautiful to me, is that David’s 16 months of a place he chose to stay was changed with one breath and one utterance of reliance on the King of Kings. God answered. God strengthened the extremely weary renegade army. God empowered them to victory.
Every. Single. Thing. Was. Recovered.
It’s one breath and one inquiry sweet sister. Allow Jesus to uncloud your thinking. Strengthen yourself in Him. This is where victory is won.
