Magnify:
make (something) appear larger than it is, especially with a lens or microscope.
Psalm 34 was written in the wake of David’s experience at Gath. You know-that time he acted insane? I did have to laugh a little and think-desperate times called for desperate measures-and whoa-David was in that place!
Have you ever been in Gath? I sure have. Gath for me represents that place where I have allowed fear, sin, pride, drive me to be on the run. And when I’ve come face to face with the enemy-I more or less played dumb. In Gath-David realized he had done the same thing. He had allowed all of these iniquities to drive him to the enemy’s camp. His wake up call was staring the enemy in the face.
He was delivered from the hands of the enemy. We aren’t told how his escape was made-but he got away. And it drove him to a beautiful place called humility. Go back and read Psalm 34 and envision yourself as David. You have escaped the enemy with your life. And now you are hidden once again in the safe place of your relationship with Jesus.
We, like David, have a couple of options when we find ourselves in this place. But we need a magnifying glass 🔍 to “see”.
The enemy’s magnifying glass:
The Devil entices is to magnify our pain and camp out in our bitterness or confusion. He wants us to focus on our failures.
But David found the best way to magnify the situation.
He discovered that the best way to magnify a Gath experience is with a broken and contrite spirit
It’s as if he said: I am not okay with the areas of my life that are not under your leadership anymore. I am going to call them what they are-sin, unbelief, fear, bitterness. (You can fill in the blank with your own issues. 😉).
I am going to have confidence in you. I choose to MAGNIFY you God.
The Gath factor: David solidified the beauty of this Spiritual Truth: If I will come with sincerity and truth, I will recover. No situation, no sin, is bigger than recovery in our relationship, Abba Father. He will not turn away from a broken and contrite heart. But instead, he will save, he will deliver and He will turn to the brokenness of my spirit and reconcile all of the brokenness of my spirit, and heal it all.
This reconciliation with God is more of number one importance, and super-cedes what is happening in our circumstances.
The Gath Factor and the experience was written down (Psalm 34) as a declaration and reminder to David in his later years.
Have you had a freedom experience? Do you need one? Do you need to “go back” and remember the beauty of what you learned in your early years with Jesus.
What will you magnify when you fail? Fall? We have choices-and one them leads to freedom. The other leads to deeper bondage.
You can do it sweet sisters in Christ. You can magnify the beauty of a broken spirit before the king of kings.
