God’s Intervention Starts With Your Invitation…

First Samuel 20:1-15

Awe the Jonathan David relationship has spoken so deeply into my life. I remember as a child, loving this story, and desiring a relationship like this in my own life.

In this portion of scripture, David has again escaped death in Ramah where Saul had been overcome and was prophesying for almost 24 hours. This scene is very interesting to imagine. Here was a man, who at one point had been anointed as King of Israel and filled with the Spirit ironically this happened in Ramah. He had turned his back on God, and the spirit had left him and he was tormented day and night. But going back to Ramah in his torment, he begins to prophesy. And David sees his way of escape.

David runs to his best friend and seeks wisdom. He knows his life is in danger and David asks Jonathan what he has done. Jonathan wholeheartedly loves David, but he is naive about his father’s intention to kill David.

But David sees the truth and let’s Jonathan know that his life is in jeopardy. They come up with a plan to protect David’s life while Jonathan goes to find out his father’s intention for himself. He asks Jonathan to consider the covenant they made previously and offers his life to Jonathan as sign that he is still loyal. He wants to know where Jonathan stands.

When David Invoked their previous covenant with Jonathan, God was invited in to the situation. David and Jonathan’s friendship was being tested. But when the covenant was spoken and both recommitted to it-that covenant, that was in the will of God, was an invitation for God to intervene.

Do you need God’s intervention in a relationship? In a circumstance? In your life? Call on the name of the Lord, and invite him in to that place of fear or pain. Ask for His covenant of his promise through a scripture that you can cling to and hide in the presence of the most high God.

Don’t expect to be invited to dinner in the presence of the enemy with the red carpet rolled out for you tomorrow-(though I wouldn’t put it past God-He can do anything.). Instead, look at David’s life and see what happened the days weeks and months later. David would remain in hiding for years and running for His life. But the invitation to allow God to intervene is the invitation for God to come into your heart, your circumstance, your relationships, your mind, will, and emotions. Expect His presence to change YOU; your perceptions, your attitude, your thoughts, your heart. And praise Him for the small victories. He has so much in store for David even in David’s fugitive years. Lay down your expectations for change and pick up your promise to be changed.

God has blessed me with some of the dearest friends on earth who sharpen my iron, hold me accountable and tell me the truth when I don’t wanna hear it.

But if you want the best relationship of your lif that will empower and enrich your earthly friendships-it’s Jesus girls!

Studying God's word and teaching for transformation are two of my favorite things. And there is no place better to study than with my sistas! I am most grateful for my salvation, and relationship with Jesus, for the incredible Godly man I have covenanted with, and the four beautiful daughters we get to raise together.
